Pit Reviews

PIT REVIEW SPECIAL-- THIS IS A ONE OFF SPECIAL REVIEW OF THE SITE WE PLAY AT AND LOVE--LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I GIVE YOU COMBAT SOUTH!!!

Well i have finally got off my backside and finished the review that has been waiting to be added for the last couple of months!! After first speaking to Steve (the guy who runs the site for those of you who dont know) to get permission for this review, it was then down to me to decide what to include. I must apologise if i miss anything or add something that you dont agree with, but please remember this is only the opinion of a couple of people.

Combat South Woodland is situated close to the village of Wickham in hampshire. The site is spread over around 90 acres of woodland area, and is seperated down into smaller areas for the various game play senarios played out during the day.

For a typical sunday skirmish, we drag our sorry carcasses out of our pits at about 07.00hrs, which gives us enough time to check our kit, (again) have a cuppa, and generally get in the frame of mind required for a good days skirmish!! (that is cheerful, happy and up for a laugh). Our lift (Alec) arrives at around 08.30hrs, and we gladly say goodbye to the kids and the babysitter, and pile four adults and enough kit to start our own war into the car and off we go!!! On arriving at CSW, and Alec finally managing to park the car, we heave ourself and said kit onto the grounds, where there is ample space for 100+ people, most of the "camp area" is under a shelter so you dont have to worry about the rain. The first thing we always do is pay for the day, christ is it really £20 for the whole day, including lunch, AND tea and coffee all day!! Personally i think it is a small price to pay for the friendly greeting we always get, i mean seriously, i dont even get called by my name at work!!!

For the newbies (new players) there is a safety briefing at around 10.00hrs, for people new to airsofting this is probably the most important stuff you will hear, use what you are told, not just at CSW, but at any site you may go to for a safe and enjoyable day. Listen to the guy, Steve doesnt just stand there spouting crap, he knows what he is on about.

First games of the day start at around 10.00hrs, and are generally played on the "speedball field" and obviously as the name suggests, these games are fast paced to get you into practice for the day ahead..... Games vary so i cant really give you an idea of exactly what we do, but the village, pine forest, radio shack, the hill, and the farm all feature in some way or other. You have attack and defend, seek and destroy, and rescue missions are some of the senarios we have played. The games are timed and are marshalled throughout by the friendly CSW marshalls, (pictured on pic pages), and although the marshalls seem to be standing around not doing much, they are actually watching what is going on around them to ensure fair play and safety.

The morning games are generally finished at around 13.00hrs, when there is a mad rush back to camp for lunch. Lunch is normally a barbeque, again organised by CSW staff, and is included in the price, you will get plenty although you may have to wait a while. All i can say is the queue for lunch resembles the lunchtime rush i remember from school, only the food at CSW is much much better, an whats more, its served to you with a smile!!

After an hour or so to eat, rest and drink tea, coffee or soft drinks from the small "shop", games resume. Again, because they change the senarios, i can only tell you its fun!! The afternoon games last until around 17.00hrs (earlier in the winter because of lighting) and we all trek back to the camp chatting and comparing the "kills" we have each gotten. After half hour or so sorting kit and chatting over another coffee, its time to return to the boring drudgery of real life!!

Also available at CSW is kit and rifle hire, for an additional fee ( i think £43 ) which includes the cost of clothing, rifle, face protection, lunch, and of course ammo!!

If you already have your own rifles, CSW also have ammo, gas, grenades, smoke grenades, and they also have a quick charge capability for those who were to lazy (or forgettful) to charge their batteries properly!

All in all CSW is a great day out, whether you are new to the sport of airsofting, or an old hand who is now part of the fixtures and fittings, you are bound to have a good, tiring day, the likes of which can only be experienced at a site like CSW.

Hopefully if you are new to the sport, this review may tempt you to try CSW, trust me, you will not regret your choice of site to try for the first time.

  See you there!!!!!!!

I would like to thank Steve and the other CSW members for permitting this review, and also for running a great site.
